ASN is pleased to announce a new GEM (Engagement Group) that aims to connect physicians to advance the practice and impact of nutrition in medicine. ASN GEMs provide members with a unique opportunity to connect with colleagues and peers, learn and share their experiences, and stay informed about ASN initiatives related to their professional interests.
New Physician Nutrition GEM
This new gem, named Physician Nutrition GEMprofessional home for physicians, physician-scientists, practitioners, and medical students seeking to integrate nutrition into clinical care, education, and research. The group promotes collaboration among medical specialties, promotes the use of evidence-based nutrition in medical practice, and provides opportunities for peer education and professional development.
Through networking, mentoring, and education, the group helps physicians and practitioners translate nutrition science into patient care, strengthen the physician voice within ASN, and promote the role of nutrition across the health care continuum. Physician GEM complements the work of the Medical Nutrition Board by focusing on physician perspectives and the application of nutrition knowledge in clinical and practice settings, while inspiring and educating the next generation of physician leaders in nutrition.
Physician Nutrition chairs GEM Zhaoping Li, MD, PhD. Dr. Lee is the Linda and Stuart Resnick Chair in Human Nutrition, Professor and Chief of Clinical Nutrition in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is also chairman of medicine at the Los Angeles VA Health System and director of the UCLA Multidisciplinary Center for Human Nutrition.
