  • Laneige JuicePop Box Lip Color Moisturizing and Oil-Light ($23, Sephora)

Why did I test…

How I Tested…

I tested the Butter Lip Color in different shades and commented on the ease of application, texture, weight, taste, scent and pigment. I took pictures before application and immediately after eating and drinking. I also topped off the lip color with a lip balm.

Test results…

  • Weight and texture. These colors reach the ideal medium. They offer more excitement than a regular balm, but without the heavy feeling of the lips. Unlike old colors that are drying, this formula is especially bright and moisturizing. It’s a great solution for anyone who wants to look casually put together for a night out or style up with just enough sparkle.

  • Ease of application. For the first time, I had to use a mirror to avoid staining the surrounding skin. The formula sets quickly, meaning you have a short window to clean up mistakes before the stain is locked in. I would also avoid rubbing my lips to keep the coat smooth. Rubbing caused the color to push to the outer corners of my lips, creating an uneven stain.

  • Ability to layer. I wore this tinted oil on it’s own and then layered on my favorite balm – Laneige. Glaze Craze Tinted Polypeptide Lip Serum – once the initial glow of your mind has faded. With one swipe, my gaze was refreshed. The pigment is buildable, so you can apply an additional layer of color for a more saturated and glossy finish.

  • Pigment. Electro Berry and K-Pop Pink are my favorite shades for pop color. They give an interesting stain that really sticks around through food or coffee. Jazzy Jam is your ultimate lipstick choice, but better. It’s a smooth and natural look for me. The lighter the shade, the longer the stain will last.

  • Retention of power. The lighter shades lasted through my morning coffee, water breaks, snacks, and meals. However, darker, more muted shades may not leave a visible stain (although if you’re looking for something subtle, this can actually be beneficial).

  • Taste/smell. I really appreciated that the taste and smell are light and pleasant, not chemical-y.

Sides…

  • It is recommended that you use a mirror to apply lip color. To maintain an even layer and therefore an even color, do not rub your lips together.

  • Formulas are free of parabens, formaldehyde, phthalates, mineral oil and other potentially harmful substances.
