Read our next page: “Kin” by Tayari Jones

We’ll be back for book two 📚

The next meeting of Skimm’s virtual book club, Off the Page, is scheduled and we will be reading: grudge by Tyree Jones

Read the book and then join us live on June 17 at 7:00 p.m.

You meet the author, ask her your questions, and discuss the book—the parts that stay with you, the parts you still think about—in small groups with like-minded women.

Plus: 15% off when you book RSVP and the publisher’s reading companion with exclusive Skimm questions.

Why we chose grudge

What makes a family? The one you were born into or the one you make?

grudge Thayari Jones follows Annie and Vernice, two girls growing up side by side in the 1950s South, both motherless and bound together by a shared absence.

But as they grow up, their lives are pulled in different directions. One is shaped by the ambition, expectation and promise of another. The other is driven by a question that he cannot get rid of: Why did my mother leave me?

What Happens is a story about friendship, class, identity, and the unexpected paths our pasts take to find what is possible for us.

grudge is a sweeping coming-of-age story that asks us to ponder: What do we really owe the people we love?

That’s what you get when you RSVP

  • An exceptional one Bookshop.org discount code for 15% off the book

  • A reading companion from the publisher with exclusive questions just for Skimm

  • A calendar invitation that you can add with one click

How our off-page book club works

1. We read four books a year.

Yes. Four. That’s it. Because between work, family, and trying to relax, reading should feel fulfilling—not like another obligation.

2. You have time to read.

Once the book is announced, you have a few months to complete it. Read at your own pace.

3. RSVP and meet the author.

Each off-page event includes a live Q&A where you can get your questions answered.

4. You meet the author

After the author leaves, we break into small groups for book club discussions. You’ll hear different opinions, make business decisions, and maybe even see the story differently.

Why do you want to enter?

Purpose: Silly time with smart, like-minded women – where a good book meets good company.

RSVP to join the Skimm Book Club and start reading grudge with us today.

See you there. ✨
