Brushing with coconut oil


I am a big fan of it oil extraction. I have previously shared how I started this ancient practice and why I started oil pulling with coconut oil instead of I decided to spice up my oral routine with this coconut oil chew with essential oils!

Benefits of coconut oil pulling

Not familiar with oil pulling? It’s just pouring olive oil (usually sesame or coconut oil) in your mouth and then pouring it into the trash. There are some studies and a lot of anecdotal evidence showing that it can reduce plaque. Coconut oil is also naturally a mild antibacterial and can help keep bacteria in the mouth at bay.

Brushing your teeth with coconut oil is an old practice, but more and more people are starting to take it. How long you consume coconut oil depends on your tolerance, but 5-20 minutes is a good goal. So how often do you smoke coconut oil? I aim for once a day or at least a few times a week.

What type of coconut oil you use also plays a role. I recommend using organic, virgin (or unrefined) coconut oil. MCT oil will also work.

Oil pulling with coconut oil for teeth

The idea is that the oil can reach and help remove harmful substances in the mouth, such as bacteria and plaque. Unlike alcohol-based mouthwashes and toothpastes, oil can reach the gum parts. And the naturally antibacterial properties of coconut oils can help break down bacteria.

Many report that their teeth and gums feel cleaner when using the oil regularly. Others notice that the bad smell disappears. Personally, I have seen less gum swelling and plaque on my teeth. My dentist even commented on how clean and plaque-free my teeth were after adding the buttermilk. my oral health routine.

Coconut oil with essential oils

These coconut oil chews were inspired one day when I was making them homemade chocolate in small molds. I found that I could simplify my routine by making some bite-sized butter chews.

Adding essential oils like peppermint, clove, and tea tree enhances the flavor and health benefits. My favorites so far are peppermint and cloves. Just make sure that oils of your choice is safe for oral use and does not interact with any medications or health conditions you have.

I keep these chews in the fridge so they keep their shape. Keeping them also helps the text at the beginning. For my kids who have trouble with the texture of coconut oil, it helps a lot to keep them in the fridge so they can “eat” them first.

  • Melt the coconut oil until it is almost liquid.

  • Remove from heat and add essential oils.

  • Pour into silicone candy molds and place in the fridge or freezer to harden.

  • Once hardened, remove from molds and store in a container.

  • Use one chew a day to absorb the oil.

  • The molds I used held about 2 tablespoons each. If your molds are slightly smaller or larger than mine, you will get a different result.
