From author of the first journal article to editor-in-chief, Dr. Lindschild has been instrumental in building CDN’s solid foundation
Rockville, MD (May 6, 2026) – The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) today announced the appointment of Brian Lindschild, PhD, as interim Editor-in-Chief of its open access journal, Current developments in nutrition (CDN), valid from July 1, 2026. Dr. Lindschild’s appointment supports continued editorial leadership while positioning the journal for continued growth and innovation in nutrition publishing.
Dr. Lindschild is a professor and director of the School of Health Sciences at Kansas State University. He brings extensive experience with ASN journals and strong leadership experience in academic nutrition. From 2017 to 2023, he worked as an academic editor CDN and is a recognized advocate of accessible publishing and open educational resources. His research focuses on micronutrient-fortified foods and international nutrition programs.
Since its inception, CDN has become an important print platform serving the global food community. As an open access journal of ASN, CDN plays a key role in expanding access to nutrition science for researchers, clinicians and policy makers worldwide. The journal is committed to promoting high-quality research that is judged not only by innovation, but also by scientific rigor and contribution to the field.

ASN also recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Jack Odle, PhD, whose term as editor-in-chief expires on June 30, 2026. Over the past decade, Dr. Odle has been established. CDN as a leading open access journal, ensuring a strong initial impact factor, expanding its global reach and strengthening its editorial and peer review processes.
Under the leadership of Dr. Odl. CDN introduced ways to transfer manuscripts to improve the author experience and support connectivity in the ASN portfolio; Experimental guest editing, led by special issues and article publishing models; emerging emerging fields such as food systems sustainability, applied science, and food and nutrition of indigenous peoples through the creation of specialized sectors; and fostered the development of academic and associate editors, several of whom have advanced to leadership roles in ASN journals, including American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
