What to wear to a sporting event if you hope both teams will have fun

The products you buy through our links may earn us income commission. Oh, and if something isn’t in stock, sorry, it was at the time of posting (and all prices were accurate).

Go to sports. Do something. Fight like a team. If you’ve sent one of these texts in the past few weeks, congratulations, you’re in the right place. Between the World Cup, NBA championships, (ahem) Off campusand much more, it’s shaping up to be a Sporty Spice™ summer. To help you dress for the theme, we’ve rounded up some high-heeled, sporty looks that you can wear to your next watch party — or instead to dinner and drinks.

Retro sails that are literally a compliment magnet…

One editor received this 1994 FIFA World Cup™ shirt as a gift from Hollister and immediately bought another one for his girlfriend. She raved about the high quality tailoring and 90s style. It’s a great layer to throw on at a bar or watch a party in case the AC blows.

A shirt that shines as a World Cup kit…

Official team jerseys are … expensive. This graphic tee from Old Navy is under $40 and has just as much team spirit. The colors are bright and hold up well after multiple washes. If you are not into smocked stuff, they are 100% cotton versionsas well.

A comfortable jacket that works every time…

There’s never a wrong time to sport this sweater (see what we did there?). We especially love it over sexy shorts and a button down for a funky vibe. It’s slightly oversized and designed to fit you even better with every outfit and wash. Jersey can never…

A soft, long t-shirt in any color you want…

This seamless kids’ cranberry t-shirt has a second-skin feel, making it a great base layer under your team shirt. It comes in nine colors that will work with anything in your closet. Oh, and it’s less than $20. Damn.

A jersey that doesn’t choose a side…

Disclaimer: This jersey top is clearance, so it will sell out fast. But at less than $10, we couldn’t pass it up. It looks like a uniform but feels like your favorite oversized t-shirt. We’re looking at the purple and white versions for game day.

An easy white container…

Aka, LBD casual wear. A blue and white tank is a must-have for outdoor viewing parties or a day trip to the stadium. This one from Buck Mason is at the top of our list because of its high-quality fabric and internal shoulder straps that keep your bra straps hidden.

Colorful gym shirts with just the right amount of compression…

These high waisted shorts are huggable in shape. The elastic waistband falls just above the belly button, but can be worn for a low-cut look. They come in 22 colors that we collect like trading cards (go to sports, remember?). We also love the built-in summaries for added coverage.

A pair of sweatpants…

Instead of jeans, which we’re not talking about during the hot, humid months, you’ll want to get pants that are loose, comfortable, and won’t make you sweat even more than you already are. These wide leg sweats are stretchy and moisturizing, and the straight leg silhouette looks more polished than others.

Barrel pants with serious WAG energy…

Make like the WAGs and opt for statement sports. These nylon barrel pants have a comfortable waistband and also have four spacious pockets. Pro tip: add a pair of strappy heels, a clutch, and that white tank top for an Instagram-worthy outfit.

The linen shorts you’ll be wearing all summer long…

You don’t have to attend a sporting event to rock these shorts. In fact, they are also perfect for travel and beach days thanks to their super light linen fabric. Add a tank top or an oversized button for a chic and effortless outfit.

A stadium-approved bag that’s really cool…

While every stadium and public space is different (be sure to check their restrictions before you go), it’s a good idea to invest in a spacious, appropriately sized light bag for upcoming concerts, shows, or games. This Wrangler crossbody can hold your phone, keys, wallet, tickets, sunscreen, and more.

A baseball cap that says it all…

Like we said, there’s no need to pick sides if you’re hoping both teams are just having fun. This cap celebrates all wins. The stitching reminds us of a vintage logo and turns any outfit into a sportswear.

A bandana for when you’re feeling more stylish than sporty…

Sometimes you want to touch the spirit of the team. This bandana comes in the national soccer team’s famous colors and features an illustrated soccer field when laid flat. Wear it around your neck, belt loops or purse for the perfect pop of color.

Simple sneakers we buy over and over again…

Adidas Gazelles were originally designed as training shoes, but now they are a fashion staple. They are the type of sneakers that go just as well with jeans or sweats as a dress. And they come in over 25 color combinations (check notes).

The new balance we see (so far) across all our channels…

It’s been over a year since these old dad shoes hit the shelves, and surprisingly, they’re still going strong. They provide extra support due to their C-CAP midsole and thick rubber sole. 90’s style at its best.

An updated version of our beloved Birkenstocks…

These Birks are everything we love about the tried-and-true two-strap sandal, but they’ve got chunky metal buckles and shiny leather for a chic feel. We love them with a pair of jeans and a classic white top, either before or after the gym.
