As anticipation grows for a possible showdown between 2025 Arnold winner Mike Sommerfeld and 2024 winner Wesley Vissers, reports are coming out of Columbus that say Sommerfeld may not even make the stage and appears to have missed weight.
Tests of the athletes prior to the Classic Physique finals are said to indicate that Sommerfeld was unable to make the required weight for the category, possibly ruling her out of this year’s show. No official statement has been released by The Arnold’s organizers or the German bodybuilding camp at the time of writing, but those who attended the event suggested he was around seven kilos over the weight limit.
“Mike Sommerfeld is from the Arnold Classic and will not be competing,” wrote Beyond the Stage TV in a shocking Instagram update. They also played down the idea that he might move to a more appropriate division for his weight. “He will not compete in the open race,” the agency said.
Of course, this isn’t the first time “The Badass” has had serious weight issues. In the 2025 Olympics, Sommerfeld explained that he had to lose 14 kilos in a few days for weight for the most prestigious bodybuilding show. It seems that the confusion surrounding weightlifting stems from the fact that athletes must meet a specific weight limit that is set based on their height. This rule exists so that each participant represents the desired ratio in the scene.
During Arnold’s check-insome viewers reported that Sommerfeld was not satisfied with the height recorded with the organizers of the show and expected to be measured again. Apparently, this did not happen.
So, if Sommerfeld can’t find a way to meet the requirements to participate in Arnold 2026, it will be a huge blow and mean the new Arnold Classic Physique champion is guaranteed this weekend.
