I have tried every breakfast sandwich at McDonalds and the best one is sweet and tasty


We’ve tested every McDonald’s breakfast sandwich to find the one that reigns supreme.

Whether you’re running late for work, starving, or just need something substantial to get you through a long day, breakfast sandwiches are probably the ultimate creation. Being able to run to your favorite place to eat and grab a sausage, egg and cheese McGriddle or even a steak to fill you up quickly with protein can be essential on those busy mornings. McDonald’s offers a variety of breakfast sandwiches filled with bacon, steak, sausage, eggs and cheese on a variety of buns, biscuits and bagels for a delicious, handmade breakfast on the go. They offer a very large selection of sandwiches, so I’ve tried every breakfast sandwich that McDonald’s has to rate them for you. Let’s get into it!

Sausage biscuit

The Sausage Biscuits seemed plain and boring right away, and unfortunately, my first impression held when I ate it. The biscuit itself is very dry, practically asking for flavoring or some creamy breakfast sauce. That being said, the sausage is excellent. It is more flavorful and higher quality than fast food breakfast sausages. Unfortunately, without much else on the sandwich, it still feels too simple and a bit disappointing.

Adding eggs definitely improves the moisture and flavor. The egg is a rolled version of an omelet, but it’s actually less spongy than expected, which was a pleasant surprise.

Even with eggs, it still feels incomplete without cheese and falls to the bottom of the list overall.

Egg Bacon and Cheese Biscuits are just good. The bacon gets a little lost inside the dry biscuit. Overall the flavor is barely there and it feels like a step down compared to the sausage versions.

Hot Honey Sausage and Egg Biscuits

This newer sandwich adds a delicious honey sauce that will definitely help the biscuit dry out. However, the sauce is more like hot sauce than honey, with a flavor that almost leans towards ketchup. It’s surprisingly spicy and builds over time. It improves the texture of the biscuit but the flavor is not as good.

Steak, Egg and Cheese Biscuits

The steak itself has a very strong flavor that feels unusual for breakfast. Combined with the already dry biscuit, the sandwich feels weak and not very enjoyable. A little bit of breakfast sauce or ketchup might help, but it’s still not my favorite flavor-wise.

The bagel was the biggest disappointment of the entire tasting (not to be dramatic, but I stand by what I said). It felt hard, dry and tasteless. Keep in mind, I live outside of New York, so my bagel standards may be a little high. But to my knowledge, they are not supposed to pop like crackers. Even with the egg and cheese, it was still unpleasant to eat. Skip the bagels altogether.

This version includes a sauce that’s a bit like hollandaise, McDonald’s attempt to add moisture to dry as hell bagels. The cream sauce couldn’t save it. The steak itself is tender and not as bad as it smells, although it’s too garlic and onion heavy for breakfast, especially if you’re going to work. The bagel itself completely ruins it.

Switching to sausage helped the bagel case a bit, but the bagel remains too dry to save the sandwich. While this combination is the best tasting, the bagel itself is still the worst bread option.

The sausage, egg, and cheese add enough moisture and richness to balance out the biscuit sandwich. The sausage fat will help soften the biscuits and bind everything together. This is easily the best biscuit sandwich ever, and really quite tasty.

Egg and Cheese McMuffin

Calories: About 270-280 (about 310 if Canadian bacon is added)

This sandwich is very simple and a little bland. There’s a version that’s considered the original McMuffin that has Canadian bacon, and it’s a little better. Without meat, an English muffin feels dry and boring. Frankly, it’s just boring. It really needs something extra to make it worthwhile.

It was a surprise, although it seemed like it could use a little something extra. It’s still a bit dry without eggs, but the sausage is so tasty that it’s easy to eat. This proves how strong McDonald’s breakfast sausage really is.

Bacon, Egg and Cheese McMuffin

This is a classic breakfast sandwich that works really well. The McMuffin uses a different type of egg. It’s more like a hard, over-easy egg with a visible yolk, which gives the sandwich a slightly different texture. Crisp bacon is clearly passed. It’s simple, balanced and satisfying, especially with hot sauce or ketchup. Not a bad option!

This has become one of the best classic breakfast sandwiches. The English muffin is soft, the sausage is flavorful, and the egg and cheese add moisture, so it’s not as dry as some others. Everything balances well. This is a great breakfast sandwich that I’m sure would go up a notch if you added some sauce.

The steak once again felt very strong for breakfast, with heavy garlic and onion flavors. While it might work better as a lunch or dinner sandwich, it doesn’t really complement the breakfast format. I’m not just a fan either. It’s not terrible, but it just doesn’t compare to some of the other options out there, like juicy sausage patties.

Chicken McGriddle

It’s basically just their chicken patties on McGriddle buns (basically pancakes marbled with a little syrup). It feels like McDonald’s was trying to get the chicken and waffles vibe, but without the cheese or sauce, it feels detached and dry. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t quite make sense as a breakfast sandwich.

The sweetness of the McGriddle helps balance the strong flavor of the steak. It’s still not amazing, but the gravy buns make steak more tolerable than other breads. In my opinion, steak is in no way comparable to sausage.

It’s simple, but still very tasty. If you like pancakes and sausage for breakfast, this is it. The sweet-savory combo works perfectly. As someone who regularly orders this combo at the diner and sees sausage and pancakes as the ultimate power duo, this was the perfect choice for me.

The McGriddle dessert is especially good with bacon. The contrast between sweet pancakes and salty bacon makes this sandwich really interesting. This was one of the best bacon variations in my opinion.

The Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddle is 100% a hands down winner. The sausage brings a hearty flavor, while the McGriddle buns add little pockets of syrupy sweetness. The egg and cheese make the whole sandwich rich, moist and balanced. It’s the perfect combination of sweet and savory, filling and easily the best breakfast sandwich I’ve tried from McDonald’s.
