From bad leadership and the workplace’s emphasis on the need for a sense of belonging and inclusion are some of the challenges facing leaders (and team members) today and in the future.
1. Fight against toxic leadership
There are too many bad leaders in government, business, and society. About 60 countries are ruled by dictators who control about 40% of the world’s population. In the world of work, many leaders fail and employees report that bad managers/leaders are a huge source of dissatisfaction and stress.
Why are there so many bad leaders? Part of the problem is that we are attracted to strong leaders and we focus too much on the effectiveness of the leader. Too often we equate “success” (achieving goalsprofit, etc.) with good leadership, but achieving great achievements among employees (and environment‘s) costs, just not good leadership.
What can be done?
Courage. Have the courage to stand up to a bad leader (dangerous, yes, I know) or get out of a toxic situation (see Chaleff, 1995). If someone else is being bullied or mistreated by the leader (or group member), speak up. Don’t be a silent observer.
2. Change of workplace
Technological changes have led to constant changes and evolution of jobs. Meteoric rise artificial intelligence not only has it changed the way people work, but many workers are being replaced by AI and other advanced technologies. As the human labor force decreases, it becomes a serious social and economic problem.
What can be done?
Keep going education and developing work-related skills and competencies. Explore possible alternatives career roads Always look for opportunities, not only to improve yourself, but to find other ways to reward yourself.
3. Employee welfare and quality of life
Research clearly shows that work stress is both psychologically and physiologically harmful (Beehr, 2014).
What can be done?
Develop good workplace coping strategies and find a “balance” between work life and home life. If possible, distance yourself too muchstress situation
4. Creating an inclusive culture
When employees do not feel as though they “belong” to their work group or organization, it can lead to high turnover and affect employee performance (Nishii & Mayer, 2009).
What can be done?
Leaders and members of the organization should focus on making others feel like a part of the team and the organization. Here are some key points that leaders should focus on to make people feel:
- All you can learn about diversity and inclusion is having a “diversity mindset.”
- Think broadly about individual personalities, not just race. sexand sexual orientation (taking into account religious, cultural and subcultural, economic, political, age, disability and other personalities).
- Think about ways you can help create a culture that values diversity. What can you do to attract qualified and diverse team members?
- Identify inclusiveness and promote inclusive engagement as a central tenet of the organization’s culture.
- Review existing practices to see if any themes conflict with the themes of equity and inclusion and modify them.
- Encourage the participation of all members. Give members a chance to voice their concerns and make them part of the process.
