British boxer Conor Benn made his debut for the Zuffa Boxing banner by defeating Regis Progress on points, resulting in the American fighter announcing his retirement. Now, “The Destroyer” has his sights set on Ryan Garcia, who will be dropping weight to return to the welterweight division.
At Progress’ training camp, Benn is hoping to get a shot at WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia after repeatedly challenging him for a title fight. In order to do so, Benn will have to make the maximum weight of 147 pounds for his fight, which is rumored to take place in August 2026. Benn’s last fight against Progress, however, saw The Destroyer tip the scales at 148.1 pounds for a catchweight fight. But in 2023, the second generation boxer lost Rodolfo Orozco of Mexico at 154 lbsso the Londoner has apparently relied on his cardio.

Benn, with a record of 25 wins (14 by knockout) and only one loss, has fought mainly at welterweight, but at the age of 29 and out of the ring, the decision to return to his old stomping grounds was considered. “Well, it’s been a bit difficult because I’ve only moved up to middleweight in the last couple of years,” said the British boxer. M&F of his decision to return to welterweight. “Ultimately, I want to go back to the weight where I’m most dangerous and win a world title and we’ll see what happens after that.”
Ryan Garcia He is 27 years old, has won 25 fights (20 by knockout) with only two losses and has never officially moved up in weight. “King Rye” has to make a mandatory title defense against Benn, but he believes he said recently“It’s going to be in August. We’re going to eat it in Vegas… Yeah, we’re going to eat it. Conor is going to have a blast, guys.” If Benn makes it to welterweight, and it seems very likely he will, this could be an epic fight.
