Reality star Dylan Efron does everything he can to stay in top shape so that when nature calls — quite literally — he’s ready to go.
“I love to play sports,” Efron says Muscles and fitness exceptionally. “Now there is a tennis court in front of my hotel and I went out there and tried to hit a ball. I play beach volleyball and soccer and I try to play as many sports as possible to stay free and practice as much as possible. I just want to be ready when these opportunities come, because like this climbing trip, if I could do it, it would be difficult.” it.”
After climbing his first peak in Utah between 2017 and 2018, the outdoor enthusiast was already an avid hiker, which encouraged him to take things to the next level. And in May 2026, he set a goal to climb the red rocks in Moab, UT, and thanks to a six-day-a-week regimen and a high-protein diet, he was able to get there right away.
“My friends[said]’Hey, we’re going to do this,'” Efron explains. “I’m in good shape. I think the goal is to stay as healthy as possible and be ready for anything.”
Growing up alongside his famous travel partner, Zac EfronThe brothers learned at an early age how much of the world there is to explore. The 34-year-old had to focus on conquering Moab’s nearly 90-degree peak.
“I’ve been going to national parks since I was little and seeing people there and going, ‘Oh, I want to do that one day,’ and then realizing, ‘Oh, I could do that today if I wanted to.’ before Dancing with the stars says the finalist. “I just had to learn. And then that led to climbing and doing the same thing. I’d go climbing and I’d see somebody climbing and I’d be like, ‘Okay, I want to do that next.’ I think it’s just knowing that we have the ability and wanting to take the first step to learn something.”
How Dylan Efron made his way to the top
After a climbing guide told him he wasn’t good enough to tackle Moab, Efron began working to get better.
“I think it’s just practice,” says Efron, who recently teamed up with the partnership Garden of life to use Clear Whey protein. “Nothing comes overnight. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Like if I don’t climb for a while, my fingers are the first thing to start losing.
But the more you do it, the more calluses you get, so the stronger your fingers get. For me, I was never a crazy student. This is a match. In dancing with the stars I wasn’t one of the best natural dancers, but I’m sure I practiced more than anyone there.”
Efron admits that for this climb, he didn’t change his routine and only hit the indoor climbing wall once to prepare. One thing he did was make sure he was targeting the right muscles for the hike, which involves an hour of walking, three hours of climbing and an hour of returning.
“It’s trying to balance again,” Efron adds. “So I probably do legs twice a week, and then upper body, I’m definitely going back more than like chest and arms. I’m trying to focus on big muscle groups and cardio because even going up, my heart was 160 beats per second. It was a tough thing. And then just strength and flexibility, they’re more important to me.”
Efron admits that there are some fears and anxieties that come when you have nothing but a rope, and he managed to make himself speak authentically.
“Oh my god, I was so scared,” Efron says. “The climb, the first pitch, was harder than I thought, so I was a bit nervous because I was starting to cramp up and needed some electrolytes.
But after that I just started climbing.”
Food is part of the overall puzzle in Efron’s successful streak, so being “The Gardener” and helping Garden of Life launch its new smoothie kits felt like a perfect fit.
“It’s just a good diet,” Efron says of her diet. “Whey protein is the best for me because I need a lot of protein. I think after every workout, my body is fueled. I think when I was younger, I was training without protein, and I did some blood work when I was doing triathlons, and I realized that I needed more protein, specifically whey protein, and in general I realized the power of nutrition alone.
