The basis of cancer prevention is plants, not drugs.
“The vast majority of cancer research is this dedicated to find a cure, not to find new methods of disease prevention. The results of these skewed priorities can be clearly seen.” It has been nearly 55 years since President Richard Nixon declared war on cancer, but death from the most common cancer in the United States continues unabated.
“We were looking at the very nature of cancer the wrong way. Breast cancer doesn’t start when a lump is first felt or detected by a mammogram. All epithelial cancers (lung, colon, breast, prostate, pancreas, and ovarian), which account for the majority of deaths, have a long latent period—often 20 years or more.” So it’s not like you’re healthy one day and cancer the next. You were not healthy – you had cancer for decades. Indeed, “there is a strange understanding that people are ‘healthy’ until they have actual symptoms of invasive cancer,” but “a warehouse where weed is burning before it catches fire is not a safe place.”
So what does this pharmacology professor I quoted recommend? Of course, drugs. Chemoprevention – putting people on drugs to prevent cancer. The pharmaceutical industry spends tons of money promoting heart disease and stroke chemicals with statins and blood thinners, so why shouldn’t people take pills every day for the rest of their lives to protect against cancer?
There must be a better way.
About what? to use diet and nutrition for cancer prevention and treatment? Well, what kind of cancer? There are more than 200 species. But the key is: everyone sharing same characters. In a series of articles that have been cited more than 40,000 times in the biomedical literature, 10 hallmarks of cancer have been identified. was determined:
- Increased sensitivity to growth factors
- Avoiding your body’s tumor suppressors
- Giving up on your immune system
- The ability to grow forever
- Inflammation of the tumor
- The ability to capture and spread
- The ability to connect your blood
- Accumulation of DNA mutations
- Destruction of suicide mechanisms
- Violation of cell metabolism
And, of course, there are classes of drugs worth trying calculator Each chemotherapy agent is designed to target each piece of the cancer puzzle. You can see them below and at 2:27 in my video Fight the ten signs of cancer with food.

Now, ideally, drugs were able goal multiple symptoms at the same time, but this is not how the drug works. Indeed, “this need to target multiple symptoms is one of the main reasons why, in the context of cancer research, there are many proponents of investigating plant foods, as they can deliver a cocktail of bioactive compounds” that can target most, but not all, cancer symptoms. Below and at 3:00 am videoyou can see a sample of connections found in fruits and vegetables—such as berries, blueberries, and broccoli—have been shown to target at least one of 10 cancer markers in a petri dish.

Moreover, they have the qualities of an ideal chemical agent. If you were to design the perfect candidate, you would want them to target cancerous or pre-cancerous cells while leaving normal cells alone, with no side effects, in most types of cancer, could be consumed in the daily diet, be available almost everywhere, and be relatively inexpensive to begin with. Plants meet all these criteria. Not surprisingly, people who eat more plant-based foods have lower rates of cancer.
To be clear, we’re not talking about taking supplements containing extracts or refined phytochemicals, but rather eating whole plant foods—more of a nutritional system-based approach to fighting cancer symptoms. Foods includes thousands of substances that cause a large number of possible interactions, but much of the science of food “long ago directed to the effects of single dietary components.” Yes, such a reductionist approach may reveal the role of food or even individual nutrients in disease development, but let’s consider what the optimal research strategy would be to study the effects of natural biological compounds in disease prevention. Instead to use phytochemical isolated to fight cancer, why try whole foods? Sometimes the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts, a concept known as a food synergist.
Check out this study attractor simultaneous prevention of multiple cancer stages in breast cancer cells using phytochemical supercocktails. Two breast cancer cell lines were treated with six different plant compounds individually and then all together at levels normally found in the bloodstream after eating foods such as broccoli, grapes, beans and turmeric. And while the compounds were ineffective individually, together they reduced the proliferation of breast cancer cells by more than 80%, inhibited the invasion and migration of cancer cells, stopped the cancer cells in their tracks, and eventually killed them all. The plant compounds did all of this without harming the normal, non-cancerous cells used as controls.
It is not surprising that the basis of cancer prevention –based on on updating the most comprehensive report on diet and cancer ever published – not drugs, but plants, as you can see below and at 5:28 in my video.

In other words, cut off cut down on alcohol, soda, meat and processed junk and focus your diet on whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans.
