Today’s Western culture, post-Darwin, exalts the physical aspect of humanity while almost completely ignoring the spiritual aspect.
Every human being today has both a physical body and a soul that gives life to the physical body.
God created man from the dust of the earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and he became a living man. (Genesis 2:7)
The human soul is different from the souls of other creatures and is what makes us “human”.
God, the creator of heaven and earth, is a pure spirit. His spirit is often referred to in the Bible as the “Holy Spirit.”
When a new human being is born, that child inherits the human soul from its parents.
The only exception was the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ, who had no earthly human father and was born of a virgin. He was the first human to be born from both the human spirit and the divine spirit.
Apostle John, who was closest to Jesus during his earthly ministry, is the one who wrote the most about the entry of God’s spirit into the human race.
This is what he wrote in chapter 1 of his Gospel:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him; without him nothing was created.
In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it.
There came a man sent by God; His name was John. He came as a witness to testify about that light, so that all would believe through him.
He himself was not light; he came only as a witness of the light.
The true light, which gives light to every person, has come into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not know him.
He came to what was his own, but his own did not accept him.
But to all who received him and believed in his name, he gave them the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, not of human decision or husband’s will, but of God.. (John 1:1-13)
John writes about spiritual regeneration and how one can be “born again” through God’s spirit. Many Christians today, especially evangelical Christians, like to talk about being “born again,” and a poll conducted in the United States a few years ago showed that about 50% of the United States population believe they are “born again.”
This fact alone should alert people to the fact that most Americans do not really understand what it means to be “born again” as defined by the biblical texts and especially the writings of the apostle John.
Most Christians will start with John chapter 3 and the conversation Jesus had with a Pharisee named Nicodemus about this topic, but this concept of God’s birth first begins here, in chapter 1.
One way to tell if something is something is to show it this is notWhat does John do in verse 13 of chapter 1:
children born not by natural descent, not by human decision or husband’s will, but by God. (John 1:13)
The first word John uses here, translated in this special English translation of the Bible as “natural offspring,” is the Greek for “blood” in the plural: BLOODS.
Even older English translations, such as the KJV, only use blood in the singular:
who were born not of blood, not of the will of the flesh, not of the will of man, but of God.. (John 1:13 – KJV)
The Greek word is αἷμα (aima), which Thayer’s Greek Dictionary defines as:
1) blood
1a) human or animals
1b) refers to the seat of life
1c) from those things that resemble blood, grape juice
2) shedding blood, killing with violence, killing
In his writings in the New Testament, the apostle John often distinguished between “God-fearing Jews” and “satanic Jews”, especially in chapter 8, showing how the Jews who called themselves descendants of Abraham did not have special privileges just because they came from the same “family tree”.
So when he chooses to use “blood” in the plural form here in chapter 1, he is clearly including any human or “blood” family tree, and it doesn’t matter which one it is when it comes to “God’s birth.”
To be “born of God” is to have the spiritual seed of God placed in our lives.
This is what John wrote in his first letter, 1 John:
No one born of God will continue to sin because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot continue to sin because he is born of God. (1 John 3:9)
The Greek word for “egg” here is sperma (sperma).
This word is used 44 times in the New Testament. However, depending on which English translation of the Bible you use, the English word “seed” is only used about half the time, and mostly when referring to actual, physical seeds, such as plant seeds.
A good example is chapter 13 of Matthew where sperm It is used 5 times and is translated into English as “nahl” in three parables where Jesus said:
Jesus told them another parable:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good deeds seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and left.
When wheat sprouted and heads appeared, weeds also appeared.
The servants of the owner of the house came to him and said: “Master, you have sown well seed in your field? So where did the weeds come from?” »
“The enemy did it,” he answered.
The servants asked him, “Do you want us to go and lift them up?”
“No,” he answered, “because when you pull up the weeds, the wheat can be uprooted with them.” Let both accumulate to a harvest. At that time I will say to the reapers:
First, weed must be collected, tied into bundles and burned; then collect the wheat and bring it to my storehouse.”
He told them another parable:
“The kingdom of heaven is like mustard seed seeda man took it and planted it in his field.
Although it is the smallest of all of you seedbut when it grows, it is the greatest plant of the garden, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches.’
He told them another parable:
“The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and mixed with a large quantity of flour until the whole dough was worked.”
Jesus spoke all these things to the people in parables; He didn’t say anything to them.
Thus, what was said through the prophet came to pass:
“I will open my mouth with parables, I will reveal things hidden from the creation of the world.”
Then he left the crowd and entered the house.
His disciples came to him and said:
“Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
He replied: “The one who sows good.” seed He is the son of Adam. The field is the world and goodness seed is a supporter of the sons of the kingdom.
The drunkards are the sons of the devil, and the enemy who sows them is the devil.
The harvest is the end of time and the reapers are angels. As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of time.
The Son of Man will send His angels, and they will cast out from His kingdom everything that causes sin and all evildoers.
They will be thrown into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. He who has ears, let him hear. (Matthew 13:31-43)
Another English word that is often used to translate sperm “seed” is usually the “seed” of Abraham, referring to his physical family tree.
Some examples:
In response to him, they said: “We belong to Abraham.” generation and have never been anyone’s slave. How can you say that we will be freed?’ (John 8:33)
I know that you are Abraham’s generation. But you are ready to kill me because you have no place for my word. (John 8:37)
about his son from A generation of David according to the flesh, (Romans 1:3)
and they are not all children, because they are Abraham’s generationbut: “Through YOUR Isaac DESCENDANTS BE GIVEN A NAME”.
That is, the children of the flesh are not the children of God, but the children of the promise generation. (Romans 9:7-8)
“Descendants” is the same word in Greek, spermwhich means “egg”.
Two types of “eggs” – physical and mental
Therefore, we see that Abraham had two types of seed/generation: physical seeds according to his family lineage, and spiritual seeds through the spiritual resurrection that Jesus offers him through faith.
For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Jesus Christ.
And if you belong to Christ, then you belong to Abraham generationheirs according to promise. (Galatians 3:27-29)
In the Kingdom of God, even the seed of Abraham, family lines have no value.
And while many Christians today understand this, they simply claim that they are “born again” to enter into all the promises made to Abraham and fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
But what comes out of a person’s mouth is ultimately not as important as what they claim. Because everyone can equally lie and even lie to themselves about who they think they are.
No, John did very clear About who are God’s children who have received His spiritual seed and how we can recognize them:
How great is the love that the Father has shown us so that we can be called children of God! And that’s what we are!
He does not know the reason why the world did not recognize him.
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be is not yet known. But we know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him as He is.
Whoever has such hope in Him purifies himself, as He is pure.
Whoever commits sin violates the law; In fact, it is a sin.
But you know that He appeared to take away our sins. And there is no sin in Him. No one who lives in Him sins. No one who keeps on sinning has seen him or known him.
Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does good is righteous, just as he is righteous.
Whoever sins is of the devil, because the devil sinned from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
No one born of God continues to sin, for the seed of God abideth in him; he cannot continue to sin because he is born of God.
Thus we know who are the children of God and who are the children of the devil: He who does not do what is right is not a child of God; and he who does not love his brother. (1 John 3:1-10)
