Jewel Lloyd on his “Gold Mamba” mentality and winning it all in Las Vegas



Jewel Loyd has been devoted to basketball since childhood. After playing at Notre Dame in college, she was drafted as the first overall pick by the Seattle Storm in 2015 and spent the next decade becoming one of the most talented players in the WNBA. His resume includes three championships, six All-Star selections and a 2023 run in which he broke the league’s single-season scoring record. In 2025, he joined the Las Vegas Aces, took home his third ring and never looked back.

With a nickname like "Golden Mamba" – given to him by his mentor, the late Kobe Bryant – Loyd’s career It embodies “Mamba thinking”. He always strives for excellence and never settles. Basketball is in everything he does, filling “the little moments as much as the big ones,” he says. That’s why Foot Locker’s latest campaign, "Hops live here" agreed with him.

When showing when nothing works

"Showing up is work, especially on days when you push yourself harder. I’ve learned to trust my preparation and always go back to the basics: footwork, breathing, and trusting my routine. (I) remind myself that basketball is in me, even when it’s hard."

"It was all about the journey and what we did together as a team. There were moments when (people) doubted us, but being able to come out on top was an amazing feeling to share with my team."

"Aja is a great friend who always keeps it real and knows how to cheer up those around her. Our relationship is (a) lots of laughter and smiles – just joy."

"I just stay present and focus on what I can control in the moment. I’m confident in my preparation and don’t let how I approach the game."
