When a beloved TV dad dies, his on-screen wife, who was also his off-screen mistress, finds herself under the same roof as their TV son and real-life daughter. This building is deliciously messy Mary HK Choi Pool house. The adult debut follows Moon, an out-of-work actress and recovering drug addict, and her daughter Stevie, who is desperately trying to escape Los Angeles and her mother’s orbit.
To save money, the two live in their glass-walled pool – until Adam (who played Munro’s baby on TV and is Stevie’s longtime crush) comes to the funeral and they all move back into the main house. What follows is a sharp, funny and poignant portrait of a mother’s complex grief, fame and challenges. We asked Choi a few questions. Here’s what she had to say…
Q: What’s a corner of the internet you’ve discovered recently?
Tea: YouTube view Internal motives, in which host Ben Mora and an intellectual guest, usually brutal, forensically examine the image of a room to determine the age, sex, gender and location of the person inhabiting it. The photos are user-submitted and it’s amazing how good they are. In Courtney Love and Ivy Volk episode ate especially.
Q: What’s one thing you can’t stop listening to?
Tea: Bandplane Yasi Salek is the host of the podcast a month-plus of Madonna coverage. A Herculean feat driven by unconditional love.
Q: One place everyone should visit?
Tea: Namdaemun Market in Seoul, Korea. It’s as if the whole internet shopping thing happened suddenly. You can buy everything there. It’s heaven for someone like me who can’t buy without first meeting an artifact. It is an honor.
Q: What is your favorite indulgence?
Tea: Candy. I eat it every day. Especially, I love Sugar cubeand Coppico Cappuccino. It’s just a quick little party that you can throw yourself at any time.
Q: One thing everyone should watch?
Tea: Sliding doors. I seriously believe this is my answer. Two endings. But also, just clothes and hair.
Q: What’s one thing you can’t leave home without?
Tea: Headphones. In every pocket and every bag.
Q: What’s the last thing you read that you can’t stop thinking about?
