What I tested…

Brooklinen Cool TENCEL™ Basic Sheet Set ($179)

Why did I test…

How I Tested…

I slept on the Cool TENCEL™ Sheet Core set for two weeks and evaluated the comfort and durability before and after one wash cycle. Also, my air conditioning system died during a record heat wave in Philadelphia, so I tried a few days with no air conditioning, just fans.

Test results…

  • Cooling effect. As someone who moves a lot in my sleep and is prone to overheating, I was happy to be able to easily find cool spots when adjusting my sleeping position. Especially on days when there is no air conditioning, the breathable blend of 70% lyocell 30% made it easier to sleep and stay. All night I felt cool and comfortable. After sleeping in these sheets for two weeks, I can confidently say that they are the most comfortable sheets I have ever owned. The cooling aspect was important to prevent overheating and I felt refreshed regardless of the temperature.

  • High quality. When I opened the package, the sheets had a noticeable weight, minimal wrinkles, and felt luxurious to the touch. After spreading, they felt very light and wore beautifully without ironing or pre-washing.

  • Easy maintenance. After washing the sheets once on a cool/delicate setting and then drying, I was delighted to see zero signs of pilling. In fact, they were pretty much the same as when I first opened them, only now with even fewer wrinkles. I found that air drying is not required because I don’t have the space in my house.

  • Stain resistance. Even after several 100+ degree days, thanks to the fabric’s naturally high stain-repelling properties, I was surprised to see deep sweat stains. I also poured water on the sheets, there was no watermark. (It also dried in five minutes.)

  • Smooth text. I have curly hair and usually sleep with a satin cover. Sometimes my hood falls off (annoyingly) and that happened overnight. I was surprised to wake up the next morning with little or no hair loss, even though my hair was directly applied to the fabric.

Sides…

  • Environmentally friendly fibers. TENCEL™ lyocell fibers are naturally sustainable. Brooklyn uses proprietary blend of TENCEL™ lyocell and cotton for the best of them, the most breathable sheets to date.

  • Tags. I love how the Brookline fitted sheets have tags on all sides that indicate “short side” or “long side” respectively. It made the simple task of making your bed very easy.

  • Price. At $179, I’d say this sheet set isn’t the most expensive, but it’s not the cheapest either. It is very comparable to other cooling pads, but after testing these, I can say that they are worth the price of the complete set.
