What I tested…

  • Therabody TheraFace Mask Glo ($379.99)

Why did I test…

Test results…

  • Ease of use. Whether you are a beginner to red light therapy or a seasoned practitioner, this mask is very easy to use. One button initiates a 12-minute treatment that uses red, infrared and blue light therapy as well as a gentle scalp massage. It takes a lot for me to change my nightly routine, so a preset treatment definitely alleviates my decision fatigue (although you can choose specific treatments and vibration settings if you’re more experienced).

  • Efficiency. After using the mask two to three times a week for two months, my skin looked brighter and smoother, and I had less redness the morning after using it. Not only did the scalp vibration feel good, but it also helped to relax my mouth when I could tell I was gagging. It’s worth a try if you’re also dealing with TMJ. Additionally, four-minute blue light therapy is a game changer for acne-prone skin. When I felt a breakout coming on or was dealing with an existing flare-up, it soothed the inflammation and cleared it up overnight. Knowing that I had an effective breakout treatment gave me so much peace of mind and I was less inclined to pick at my skin (if you’re also a picky skin, you know this is huge). Just a heads up: I got overzealous and used it more than three times in a week and it dried out my skin. If you have sensitive skin, start slowly.

  • weight Due to the hard shell, this mask is very heavy. I had to wear it while lying down – it took me a while to get the adjustable straps to fit just right – and I couldn’t multitask while in treatment. It didn’t bother me because I like to use the time as a moment of reflection. But if you want to incorporate this into your busy morning routine, you may want something lighter.

  • Price. While it’s definitely an investment, the added blue light and vibration therapy settings make it a cut above the rest. I look forward to using it and the benefits justify the price for me. If you have been using red light therapy for years and are looking to level up, this is something to consider.

Sides…

  • Unlike many other RLT masks, this one is wireless, remote, and has built-in eye protection.

  • It has full face coverage, which means it reaches places other masks can’t, like under your eyes.

  • It is HSA/FSA eligible.
